Last week we notified you about the new Massachusetts COVID sick leave law that we believed took effect on June 7 based on the text of the bill that was available on the state legislature’s website. At that time, the state had not provided a copy of the final bill.
Now that the bill is available to the public, we see that it took effect immediately upon signing on May 28. This is good news for employees and employers, who can now receive pay and apply for reimbursement for most COVID-related leaves taken in the intermediary 10 days.
There were several small substantive changes in the final version. We recommend visiting the state’s new COVID-19 sick leave page for additional information.
